If you’re in dire need for some summer reading, you might just enjoy our newest book bundles. We’ve picked fun, heartwarming, interesting and challenging books that you can bring with you wherever you are going these coming months. Come and have a look.

For our ‘adult’ edition we start with The Interestings by Meg Wolitzer. This book starts right after Nixon’s resignation and follows six teenagers from their first meeting at summer camp and then throughout their lives. At camp their lives are perfect and they prepare themselves for greatness ahead, but then friends start to fall away and life isn’t as forgiving as the summer once was.

Our second pick is Arcadia by Lauren Groff, another book about idyllic living. In the late 1960’s several doze idealists set out to live off of the land, founding a commune in a decaying mansion called Arcadia House. The book follows this lyrical, tragic and exquisite utopian dream from its hopeful start through its heyday and after, told by Bit, the first child born in Arcadia.

For our YA book bundle we’re venturing into feminist territory. We’ve picked two books written by women who write about the objectification of women. Starting with Only Ever Yours by Louise O’Neill, which won the YA book prize this year. Freida is part of a world where baby girls are no longer born naturally. This means women are bred in schools, trained to please men so that at graduation they can be picked as ‘companions’ by men from the outside world. Then they are to breed, until the men no longer find them useful. Anyone not picked as a companion gets left behind and has a dire future ahead of them. Freida and her friend Isabel are highly rated in school and have nothing to worry about, until Isabel does the unthinkable and starts to put on weight… It’s been called a YA version of the Handmaid’s Tale and an amazing book to start a debate on feminism.

Our second pick is Beauty Queens by Libba Bray, taking the discussion a little less seriously by crashing 13 beauty queens on a mysterious island. Here survival starts and the girls struggle to get along, to to combat the island’s other diabolical occupants, and to learn their dance numbers in case they are rescued in time for the competition. The book will make you rethink beauty, femininity, friendship and pageants while making you laugh at the same time.
