A little over a month ago we introduced our Oooh Shiny! book subscription. The idea is simple. You order the subscription and we’ll send one of the newest books of that month right to your doorstep! Our first subscription batch was shipped last week and we’re finally ready to reveal the two amazing books we chose.

20150613_133832Don’t they just make you go Oooh!

22889883Starting with our book for ‘adults’: We chose The Ghost Network by Catie Disabato, a story that blends fiction and reality seamlessly while delving into the disappearance of pop star Molly Metropolis. They call it Rainbow Rowell’s Fangirl for adults, written with a penchant for old maps and undocumented 15th century explorers. For literary readers with a taste for suspense: two women hunt for a missing pop star and become ensnared in her secret society, following clues through the dark underbelly of Chicago. The book is fun and smart and you will want to read it with an internet connection nearby to google what is and isn’t true.

17408897Our YA subscription book is I Am Princess X by Cherie Priest. Best friends, big fans, a mysterious web comic, and a long-lost girl collide in this riveting novel, illustrated throughout with comics. Once upon a time, two best friends created a princess together. Libby drew the pictures, May wrote the tales, and their heroine, Princess X, slayed all the dragons and scaled all the mountains their imaginations could conjure. Libby then very suddenly dies in a car crash and with it Princess X. May turns sixteen and then she starts noticing that Princess X is popping up all over Seattle. It leads her to an underground culture dedicated to the web comic and makes her reconsider if Libby actually did die.

So this book needs the images to show why it is as awesome as it is. As you can see, I am Princess X is not just a YA novel and it’s also not just a graphic novel, it’s both!

You can now sign up for our second Oooh Shiny! subscription through our shop and we’ll guarantee that the coming books will be just as great as these two!
