In adaptation news, The Goldfinch gets turned into a movie by the Hunger Games producers. We all know this book is another trilogy in the works! But old books are also still in vogue, so Disney is producing a live-action movie of Jungle Book with no one other than Idris Elba as the scary tiger Shere Khan.
We’ve all heard that books can make you happier and a better person, but Stanford recently found out something opposite is also true. Reading a lot dpesn’t make you a better person, but it makes you better at being a bully. Reading literature will develop your Theory of Mind, which is exactly what makes bullies so efficient at ruining your life.
Now I’ve finally found a way to use my years of reading for evil and put that bookworm villain custome to good use!
The Tournament of Books started off with a bang. Indie author Scott McClanahan decided to drop out of the tournament through a cryptic Facebook post, but failed miserably when the Tournament responded by denying his opinion.
And he failed even further by winning the first round. Poor Scott, how hard the life is of a successful indie author.
Dear Diorama is the nerdiest, most awesome project you will have seen in 2014. Book Nerds come together to create diorama book reports and discuss them on their artistic and literary merit over beer.
Why don’t we make diorama’s all the time! Next book club meeting we expect everyone to bring a shoe box!
If you haven’t heard of True Detective’s misogynistic streak you probably haven’t been visiting the internet a whole lot. The first season wrapped up this week and if the show is renewed we expect some more strong female characters. The Millions already gave the writers of the show some great reading material with this list of crime novels where women are the actual detectives.
But for some of us this show can continue as is, as long as Matthew McConaughey gets more screen time.
